Leisure and culture on campus

Kino im Kesselhaus

The Kino im Kesselhaus cinema plays an important role in the region’s culture with a wide and varied programme of contemporary, historic, Austrian and international films from Wednesdays to Sundays throughout the year.
Its concerts, readings, comedy, puppet and children’s theatre round out the cultural offerings in and around Krems.
Highlights include the weekend film breakfasts, kids’ cinema for children of all ages on Sunday afternoons, and open-air screenings in the summer months.
Art and culture has been an integral part of campus life for many years. The campus choir, CHORyphäen welcomes all singing and music lovers. Launched in the 2011/12 winter semester by the Danube University Krems, the initiative is now also supported by the IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems and the Ernst Krenek Institute Foundation.

Campus Sport

Sports and fitness are vital to maintaining a healthy work-life balance. The Campus Sport service offers courses and events for students and staff of the Danube University, IMC Krems, Karl Landsteiner University, Danube Private University and the University College of Teacher Education Vienna/Krems, as well as reduced rates at a variety of sports and leisure facilities courses.

The recently established CHORyphäen choir brings together music lovers with a variety of interests. Although its performances are principally a cappella, the choir occasionally uses single instruments in its repertoire, which ranges from traditional folk music from around the world, to jazz and pop arrangements, as well as early, contemporary and experimental music.
Enthusiastic, dedicated singers with a willingness to explore a variety of styles are always welcome to join. Although the choir is primarily intended for students and staff, it is also open to singers and supporters of on-campus cultural life from the general public.
The director is Cornelia Pesendorfer, a former conductor of the Vienna women’s choir Die Chornissen. Rehearsals take place on Thursdays from 6.30–8.30pm at the Danube University and the choir normally holds two concerts a year.
If you would like to join, please contact Barbara Fidler-Kaider at barbara.fidler-kaider@donau-uni.ac.at.

Campus Culture

For our partner Danube University Krems, art and culture is not simply an optional extra. It is an element of everyday campus life which makes a significant contribution to our teaching, learning and research activities. The arts bring together students and lecturers from all disciplines and help to create an ideal setting for academic excellence through shared experiences.
The public exhibitions, readings, concerts, performances and workshops which take place on campus play an important part in the programme at Kunstmeile Krems, a group of cultural venues located close to Campus Krems.
For several years, Campus Culture – the Danube University’s programme of cultural events – has appointed artists in residence to engage in a productive dialogue with academics and researchers.
